Bocs Unveiled: A Season of Immersive Storytelling at Wales Millennium Centre

Wales Millennium Centre is once again pushing the boundaries of creativity with the unveiling of its 2025–2026 season of immersive experiences at Bocs, an intimate exhibition space designed for ground-breaking XR (Extended Reality) installations. This bold season, running from April 2025 to January 2026, invites audiences to explore the depths of desire, identity, and nostalgia through five innovative commissions.

A highlight of the season is Impulse: Playing with Reality, a powerful mixed-reality experience by the award-winning studio Anagram, narrated by none other than Tilda Swinton. Winner of the Venice Immersive Achievement Award, Impulse delves into the lives of individuals with ADHD, offering profound insights that challenge perceptions and inspire understanding. With its inclusive Pay What You Can ticketing model and fully wheelchair-accessible venue, this production ensures that everyone can engage with its transformative narrative.

David Massey, Senior Producer of Digital Experiences at Wales Millennium Centre, shared his excitement for the upcoming season: "We’ve invited artists who are reshaping narratives to reflect the world around us and spark dialogue with audiences. Shared, participatory experiences like these are where stories truly come alive."

The journey doesn’t stop there. This season at Bocs will feature a stellar line-up of pioneering productions:

  • Monsieur Vincent: An immersive dive into Vincent van Gogh’s vibrant world (21 July – 1 September 2025).

  • Ceci est mon coeur: A multi-sensory love story exploring a child’s reconciliation with their body (29 September – 31 October 2025).

  • In Pursuit of Repetitive Beats: A nostalgic celebration of the 1989 Acid House rave scene (24 October – 23 November 2025).

  • Earths to Come: A communal VR theatre piece inspired by Emily Dickinson’s poetry (1 December – 11 January 2026).

Kirsty Jennings, Managing Director at Anagram, emphasized the importance of spaces like Bocs: "A dedicated venue like Bocs is vital for presenting XR works and platforming innovative artists. Its outreach programs and Pay What You Can model make world-class art accessible to new audiences."

As someone deeply invested in the power of storytelling, I am inspired by how Bocs continues to offer transformative experiences that captivate and connect audiences. It’s not just about technology; it’s about redefining how stories are shared and ensuring these creative marvels are accessible to all. From Impulse’s reflections on identity to Monsieur Vincent’s exploration of artistic genius, this season cements Bocs as a trailblazer in immersive storytelling.
